The project involved the construction of a state-of-the-art 50-bed Community Nursing Unit (CNU) in Clonbrusk, Athlone, designed to replace the outdated St. Vincent’s Care Centre. The new facility will provide both long-term and short-term care, including en-suite accommodations, communal areas, therapy spaces, and specialized palliative care units. It is set to be a modern healthcare space that greatly improves the quality of care in the community, with advanced facilities and an enhanced patient experience.
From the perspective of Colin Burke Electrical, our role was crucial in delivering comprehensive electrical engineering building services to ensure the smooth operation and safety of the CNU. Our scope of works involved the installation of key electrical systems. This included incoming electrical services, the main switchboard, and a backup generator. A life safety system panel integrated fire alarms and emergency lighting. The works also included external lighting, an earthing and bonding system, containment systems for cables, and small power distribution. A complete lighting system, nurse call and wander alarm systems, and access control were also installed. Additionally, ICT infrastructure, UPS systems, a distributed antenna system (DAS), EV charging stations, CCTV, TV distribution, and a lightning protection system were all implemented.
With a completion target set for late 2024, Colin Burke Electrical remains committed to ensuring the electrical infrastructure of the CNU is state-of-the-art, energy-efficient, and compliant with all safety regulations, significantly enhancing healthcare services for the local community.
