The Killarney Community Nursing Unit is a state-of-the-art 130-bed healthcare facility delivered under the Irish Government’s 2022 Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative. Situated on a greenfield site in Killarney, the building combines single- and two-storey sections and is designed to provide high-quality long-term and short-stay residential care. The facility features modern en-suite bedrooms, dining and activity areas, therapy and communal spaces, and family accommodation, all supporting a person-centred approach in line with HSE standards.

Colin Burke Electrical Ltd served as the electrical specialist contractor, delivering the full design and installation of electrical building services. Our work included the complete Medium Voltage infrastructure, a dedicated ESB substation, a 1MVA transformer, and a 900kVA standby generator to ensure continuous operation of critical systems. We also installed life-safety systems such as fire detection, emergency lighting, nurse call and wander alarms, alongside structured ICT cabling, UPS systems, access control, CCTV, TV distribution, internal and external lighting, EV charging stations, and lightning protection.

This project demonstrates our expertise in delivering complex electrical infrastructure for sensitive healthcare environments, ensuring operational continuity, safety, and compliance with HTM/HBN and HSE technical standards.
