The SEAI Schools Pathfinder Project involved a major electrical infrastructure upgrade across a number of schools: Mullingar Community College, An Grianán NS and Coláiste Naomh Cormac. The initiative aimed to enhance electrical capacity, improve energy efficiency, and integrate modern safety systems in line with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s Pathfinder programme.
Colin Burke Electrical Ltd was responsible for the full electrical scope at all four sites. Key works included rewiring, upgraded switchboards, increased Maximum Import Capacity (MIC), LED and emergency lighting installations, Building Energy Management System (BEMS) wiring, and the installation of EV and PV systems to support sustainability. Specific upgrades at each school included new main switchboards, enhanced controls, structured cabling, energy-efficient lighting, and integration of boiler house and HRV systems.
The project was delivered with a focus on safety, energy efficiency, and future-proofing, ensuring the schools’ electrical infrastructure meets modern standards while supporting long-term sustainability.
